On Monday, September 17th over 120 Hilbert College student-athletes took part in a workshop that focuses on relationship violence and how it exists on college campuses across America.  The workshop, which is called Escalation, was developed by the One Love Foundation.  "The One Love Foundation was created in 2010 after Yeardley Love, a senior at UVA, was killed by her ex-boyfriend.  Her family started One Love to raise awareness and educate students about the warning signs of relationship abuse."

The 90 minute workshop began with a 45 minute film that depicted examples of relationship abuse.  The film, which was very heavy, was followed up by small group discussions led by trained social workers from Crisis Services along with trained administrators from Hilbert's athletic department as well as the college's Title IX Coordinator.  The discussions focused on noticing the warning signs of relationship abuse and potential ways that those close to it, could intervene and help prevent disastrous outcomes.

Many of the Hilbert student-athletes engaged in healthy discussion and came away with a better awareness of warning signs and what resources are available on and off campus that can be utilized if needed.​
