HILBERT WOMEN'S BASKETBALL MAKES BIG DONATION TO SIS

The Hilbert College women's basketball team hosted their first SIS Night February 12th, and with a total team effort, the Hawks raised over $1,000 dollars for the Rochester-based organization.

The Hawks decided their annual February PINK NIGHT would be dedicated to assisting Sustain Inspire Survive (SIS).  Rather than raising money for medical research, the Hawks wanted to partner with SIS since this group provides financial grants to both men and women who are battling breast cancer.

The Hawks women's basketball team is happy to announce that SIS awarded a grant to someone in the WNY region, meaning all money raised is staying local.

A breast cancer diagnosis brings with it fear, anxiety, uncertainty and often an increased financial strain.  Medical expenses combined with reduced income can intensify stress and deplete energy in patients just trying to fight for their lives.

SIS's pledge is to help patients survive both emotionally and financially, is 100-percent volunteer driven and all funds raised directly impacts those in need...those who are still alive battling towards another tomorrow.

Grant recipients can use these funds for cover medical co-pays, rent, groceries, car repairs or any other essential day-to-day expenses.

Since 2005, SIS has awarded 1,060 patients financial grants totaling more than $671,000.

The players and coaching staff from Hilbert and Pitt-Bradford's women's basketball teams as well as fans in the stands held up a hand-written sign indicating who they would Fight For.

*The Hawks realize financial donations directed towards scientific research is essential and they encourage those who already support great organizations to continue doing so.
