SPARTAN MEN'S BASKETBALL RAISES MONEY FOR PEDIATRIC CANCER

SPARTAN MEN'S BASKETBALL RAISES MONEY FOR PEDIATRIC CANCER

On Wednesday, February 10 against the Pitt-Bradford, the D’Youville College men’s basketball
team put on their Gold Game, raising awareness for Childhood/Pediatric Cancer.

The Spartans wore gold laces on their shoes, as well as gold t-shirts during warmups, to help raise awareness. The same shirts were sold before and during the game to fans and the men’s basketball team contributed funds they raised from running concessions this season to the Go4theGoal Foundation.

The goal of the foundation is to “assist families with their financial burdens so they may concentrate on their child’s needs while undergoing treatment.” Go4theGoal was founded in 2006 after Richard
Stefanacci was diagnosed with a rare type of bone cancer and lost his battle before his 15th birthday.
In the following years, Richard’s cousin Blake was also diagnosed with another rare form of cancer, thus strengthening the cause. Blake is now a four-year survivor of cancer and fully healthy.

As of 2014, it was estimated that 15,780 children from birth to their last year of being a teenager will be diagnosed with cancer. Of those diagnosed, it was estimated 1,960 will die from cancer in the US.
