ALFRED STATE'S FRASCELLA AMCC NOMINEE FOR NCAA WOMAN OF THE YEAR

Alfred State College senior Katherine Frascella is the AMCC nominee for the 2021 NCAA Woman of the Year award. She was a member of the Pioneers' women's cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field teams, graduating with a 3.94 GPA in Nursing.

Frascella has been involved in numerous community service and campus activities, as well as many leadership positions throughout her tenure at Alfred State. Once the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Frascella began working full-time on the front lines as a nurse. She developed COVID-19 from an exposure at work, and was subsequently unable to return to track as an athlete. She then served as a student assistant coach for the men's and women's track and field teams in 2021. During her senior year in college as a full-time student and assistant track coach, she also worked as a full-time Registered Nurse at Olean General Hospital and part-time as a Registered Nurse for Alfred State Health and Wellness.

Throughout her four years as a Pioneer, Frascella also participated in numerous other leadership and service positions, such as SUNY's Got Your Back Backpack Drive, Yards for Yeardly, Dr. Suess Reading Week, Special Olympics, Hope for Health Club Member, Community Give Back Day. She served as the team captain for the women's cross country and track programs, and was a representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Additionally, Frascella earned countless academic honors for her high achievement in the Nursing field. She earned the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence, the Alfred State Athletics Legacy Award, and the Paul B. Orvis Award for Student Excellence at ASC. She was also a member of Chi Alpha Sigma (the national honor society for collegiate athletes), Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, and the National Society for Leadership and Success, to name a few.

Athletically, Frascella was a member of the 2017 ACAA Cross Country Championship team.

The NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee identifies the Top 30 – 10 from each division – and from there selects three finalists from each division. The Committee on Women’s Athletics then selects the winner from the nine finalists.

All 30 Woman of the Year honorees will be recognized, and the 2021 Woman of the Year will be announced later this fall.
