Men’s Soccer Shuts Out Wilson for First Win

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's soccer team picked up its first win of the season on Thursday afternoon, blanking non-conference opponent Wilson College 1-0 at Kris' Meadow.

The victory marks the first career win for Lions' head coach Andrew Beverly, who is in his first season with the team and as a coach at the college level.

Penn State Altoona (1-1) needed just one goal early in the first half to earn the road win. Grady Ballard (State College, PA/State College) set up Cameron McCarthy (Bloomsburg, PA/Bloomsburg), who netted his first goal of the season at the 8:58 mark to put the Lions on top.

Alexander Ferry (Warren, PA/Warren) made his second start of the season at goalkeeper and recorded three saves to register the first win and shutout of his collegiate career.

Penn State Altoona finished with a 16-10 advantage over Wilson (0-2-1) in shots attempted, including leading 7-3 in shots on goal. The Lions also held a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.

Luke Hall (State College, PA/State College) led all players in the game with four shot attempts and three shots on goal. Owen Myers (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove) had three shot attempts, putting two on goal, and McCarthy also attempted three shots with one on goal.

Penn State Altoona men's soccer's next game is this Saturday, September 10, when the Lions will hold their first home game of the season at 12:00 p.m. against non-conference opponent Thiel College.
