Greensburg Rallies Past Men’s Soccer, 2-1

ALTOONA, Pa. – Pitt-Greensburg scored two goals late in the second half of Wednesday night's game at Spring Run Stadium, overcoming Penn State Altoona's one-goal lead and handing the Lions men's soccer team a 2-1 loss.

Bailey Musselman (Altoona, PA/Altoona) scored his first goal of the season for Penn State Altoona (3-8, 1-4 AMCC), and Grady Ballard (State College, PA/State College) notched his third assist of the fall.

Alexander Ferry (Warren, PA/Warren) made four saves in his 10th start of the season at goalkeeper for the Lions.

After Ferry and the Lions withstood several early scoring chances by Pitt-Greensburg (8-3-4, 4-0-1 AMCC), Penn State Altoona capitalized on its first corner kick of the game later in the opening period to put the first goal on the board. Ballard's corner kick into the box found Musselman, who fired a strong shot past the keeper from 12 yards to put the Lions ahead 1-0 at 36:39.

Penn State Altoona clung to its lead through halftime and deep into the second half, until Pitt-Greensburg broke through to tie the score in the 80th minute. With the Bobcats on the attack in the Lions' box, a deflection came to Lucas Killen, who sent a shot into the left side of the goal to knot the score 1-1 at 79:33.

The visitors struck again less than three minutes later to jump ahead, taking advantage of a foul in the box by Penn State Altoona that awarded a penalty kick to Pitt-Greensburg at 82:10. Ross Hartley took the shot for the Bobcats and beat the outstretched keeper to give his team its first lead of the game, 2-1.

Pitt-Greensburg prevented the Lions from coming up with the tying score in the closing minutes, and the Bobcats escaped with the tight conference victory.

Pitt-Greensburg finished the game with a 12-4 advantage over Penn State Altoona in shots attempted, including a 6-2 lead in shots on goal. The Lions held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Ethan Firth (York, PA/Central York) had two shot attempts for Penn State Altoona, putting one on goal. Musselman also had a shot on goal, and Ballard finished with one shot attempt.

Penn State Altoona men's soccer wraps up its three-game homestand with its final home date of the regular season this Saturday, October 22 at 1:00 p.m. against Pitt-Bradford.

Saturday's game will be Senior Day for the men's soccer program, and it is also AYSO Region 452 Appreciation Day.
