Slow Second Half Dooms Panthers

Slow Second Half Dooms Panthers

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's basketball team was able to hold a halftime lead against Penn State-Behrend on Saturday but were unable to keep up with the Lions in the second half, as they lost the game 86-62.

  • The Panthers got off to a strong start in the contest as they were able to clamp down defensively and get in transition, which led to two early Isaiah Archie buckets. He drove indie on his own for the first and then laid home a lob pass from Greg Archie. The Lions answered the early Panther run, as they were able to hold the Panthers off the board for the next 4 minutes to open up an 11-4 advantage. Nathan Schneider ended the scoreless run with a three from the top of the key and then following two Devin Moultrie free throws and an Archie layup, drove inside to make one of his own and cut the lead to just one point and force a Penn State-Behrend timeout.
  • The teams traded baskets for the next four minutes until Greg Archie hit a jumper to give the Panthers their first lead since the early moments of the game. The Lions immediately responded with a basket of their own to regain the lead, but the Panthers scored back-to-back baskets to earn a three-point advantage. The teams remained within three points for the remainder of the half and Isaiah Archie sent the game to halftime as he hit a jumper in the lane with time running short on the clock.
  • After halftime, Penn State-Behrend made a defensive adjustment that helped to shut down the Panther offense for the remainder of the game. They held the Panthers to just two points, a Devin Moultrie putback, over the opening 5 minutes as they opened up a 9 point advantage. Lennon Lindholm hit a three from the wing to slow the Lion's charge but saw his basket quickly answered as the visitors went on a 21-5 run over a seven-minute span.
  • In the second half the Panthers were only able to score 21 points on the Lions' tough zone defense, the Panthers' lowest-scoring half since their loss to Alfred.

Nathan Schneider led the way for the Panthers as he scored 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, both game-highs. He also logged his 8th double-double of the season. Isaiah Archie added 12 points for the Panthers and Devin Moultrie scored 6 points and gathered 5 rebounds off the bench.

The Panthers fall to 7-7 on the season with a 2-3 record in conference play. They will look to get back in the win column on Wednesday, as they travel to Hilbert for their midweek matchup. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
