Redhawks Battle Through First Conference Loss

Pittsburgh, PA - As conference play start to heat up around the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) the Redhawks (6-3, 2-0) and the Bobcats (8-2, 3-0) both undefeated in conference play faced off today; someone walking home remaining undefeated, and another adding their first conference loss. 

Starting for Pitt-Greensburg tonight were Maddie Sitler, Shaquoia McCray, Melina Maietta, Sidney McCully, and Nadege Durand. 

La Roche had some different starters today. 4 out of 5 of the Redhawks' normal starters were in quarantine. With that challenge the Redhawks started Makayla Abram, Janessa Goins, DJ Whittington, Machia Hairston, and Sophia Yoder

LRU played with only eight out of their full team of 15, forcing the Redhawks to change their game a bit. 

La Roche netted 40 points in the paint tonight to Pitt-Greensburg's 30 points in the paint; another 15 points for the Redhawks came from fast breaks. 

The Bobcats shot 65% from the field goal, and in the third period five three-point shots were netted. UPG held LRU to one completed three point shot. Pitt-Greensburg shot 39% from the three point range, and gained 18 points from turnovers. 

After a long, hard fought battle, the Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats remained up defeated in the AMCC. 

Leading the charge for the Bobcats was Sidney McCully. McCully completed 22 points, coupled with seven rebounds. 

Coming in right behind her was Melina Maietta with 11 points, and Nadege Durand with 10. 

Maddie Sitler dominated the rebounding game with 12 rebounds on the night; she also added eight points to the total score. 

DJ Whittingham had 16 points tonight, the leader for the Redhawks. 

Makayla Abram netted 12 points, and Alaya Henderson scored 11 points. 

Machia Hairston added six rebounds to the board, the largest among the Redhawks. 

The Redhawks return to action on Wednesday, January 12th, at Penn State-Behrend. Tip-off is at 5:30 PM, and the men play directly after.
