Geneva Softball Sweeps Behrend Lions

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. - The Penn State Behrend softball team fell 4-3 and 2-1 to Geneva in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.

Game One: Geneva 4, Penn State Behrend 3
Records: Penn State Behrend (4-7), Geneva (4-9)

Noteworthy: 

* Jocelyn McNany (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) got the Lions on the board in the first inning
* Maddie Smith (DuBois, PA/DuBois) and Emi Curcio (Perryopolis, PA/Frazier) each singled to start the frame and advanced on the first out
* McNany hit a sacrifice fly to get Smith off third for a 1-0 lead
* Geneva tied the game in the bottom of the second and then took a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth with three runs on four hits
* Behrend started the comeback attempt in the sixth inning
* McNany started with a single to left field and made it around the bases with two walks before scoring on a wild pitch
* Nicole DeRose (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) also scored on the second wild pitch of the inning to get within one
*The Golden Tornadoes recorded the final three outs in the top of the seventh to post their second straight win over the Lions this season
* Kayla Lindberg (Austinburg, OH/Geneva) got the start and pitched 4.2 innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out three for the loss

Noteworthy: 

* The Lions fell behind early and only tacked on one run in the fifth
* J. McNany had a 3-for-3 performance
* Curcio and McNany each tallied a double
* Curcio hit a two-out double in the fifth to score Smith to cut the lead to 2-1
* Geneva got its runs in the bottom of the first inning and held on for the sweep
* Each team tallied seven hits with Abby Tingley (Union City, PA/Union City) suffering the loss in the complete game 
* The Golden Tornadoes smacked four doubles in the game

* The Lions return to action on Saturday in their home opener against John Carroll. The doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
