Panthers Fall Behind Early, Lose to Behrend

Erie, Pa.-- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford faced a tough challenge on Wednesday night, traveling to Erie to take on the AMCC leading Penn state-Behrend Lions. The Panthers fell behind early, and often, losing the match 11-0.

The Panthers were able to hold off the Lions early, catching them offside 3 times n the first 7 minutes, but would not be able to hold out for long. The hosts scored 3 goals in a 97-second span to open the scoring. The first goal came at 8:23, with the second coming at 9:08 and the third 51 seconds later. Panther goalkeeper Emily Bethel was able to stop two shots before a fourth goal was scored at 12:44. The offensive onslaught continued, as the Lions went on to score 4 more in the first half to go to the break up 8-0.

In the second half, the Panthers were able to keep the Lions off the board for 26 minutes. This span included a saved penalty kick by Bethel in the 69th minute. The hosts scored the 9th goal in the 72nd minute and pushed the lead into double figures in the 77th. The Panthers were able to move the ball into a dangerous position late in the game. Alannah Allen was able to find enough room to get a shot off in the 84th minute but saw it finish wide of the target. The Lions finished the game off by adding the 11th goal in the 86th minute.

Bethel faced 21 shots on goal in the game and was able to make 10 saves. Allen took the lone shot for the Panthers on the night.

The Panthers (0-11-1, 0-3 AMCC) will have the weekend off, before returning to action on Tuesday, October 12th. They will look to pick up their first win of the season, as they host Hilbert. The game is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. kickoff at the Kessel Athletic Complex.
