Panthers Fall to Redhawks, Postseason Hopes on Edge

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's basketball team lost a tough contest against La Roche on Monday, falling to the Redhawks by a score of 91-78.

  • The Panthers were able to jump ahead early on consecutive baskets from Greg Archie and Nathan Schneider, and a three from Trey Oyler. The Panthers maintained a two-point advantage through the opening 6 minutes of play but saw each of their field goals answered with one by the visitors. After Oyler hit a pull-up jump shot, the Redhawks answered with back-to-back threes and never relinquished the lead.
  • Schneider and Isaiah Archie both made buckets inside to keep the Panthers close, but were unable to build momentum as they were answered with more LaRoche long balls. The Panthers were able to cut the deficit to 6 points with 5:03 to go on a Schneider three but the Panthers were outscored 10-7 over the final 5 minutes of the half to go to the break trailing 39-30. Isaiah Archie made two layups in the stretch while Caden Beldin added a layup and a free throw.
  • In the second stanza, the Panthers were able to cut into the lead as they were able to reduce it back to 6 points. Isaiah Archie took over, making four baskets inside including an alley-oop dunk and Oyler added a three in the stretch. La Roche was able to push back, however, as they quickly extended their lead to double digits after 6 minutes.
  • Down 18 points with 9 minutes remaining, Pitt-Bradford scored 6 in a row to start building momentum. Gavyn Mason threw down a two-handed slam after a feed from Schneider to begin the rally, and after Schneider made a layup of his own, drove to the basket and made a second field goal to put the Panthers down 12 points.
  • LaRoche was able to maintain their advantage over the closing minutes of the game as the closes the Panthers could get was 11 points.

Isaiah Archie led the way for the Panthers, scoring 26 points. He made 11-17 from the field. He also collected 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and a block. Nathan Schneider finished the game as the leading rebounder, as he grabbed 16 boards, including 5 on the offensive end. He added 17 points. Trey Oyler was the final Panther to reach double figures, as he scored 13 points. Oyler made 5-9 from the field and 3-5 from three.

The Panthers fall to 9-14 on the season, with a 4-11 record in AMCC play. They will need some help to reach the postseason, but also must help themselves with a win over Hilbert on Wednesday. The tipoff for the crucial contest will be at 7:30 in KOA Arena.
