@LaRocheWBB Wins 10th Straight at Pitt Bradford

BRADFORD, Pa. - The La Roche women's basketball team took care of business Monday evening taking down the 10th place Panthers on the road, 82-48. A season-high twelve Redhawks scored in tonight's contest led by Jenna Cole and Ayanna Mazyck who each put up 15 points a piece. Cole added 10 rebounds, three assists and a block, picking up her second straight double-double. Mazyck contributed five rebounds, three steals, two blocks and an assist.

In just 14 minutes off the bench, Freshman forward Machia Hairston (Pittsburgh, PA/Obama) nearly finished with a double-double, putting up 10 points and 9 rebounds, both season-highs, while shooting 4 of 6 (67%) from the field and 2 of 3 (67%) from the free throw line. Hairston added three steals and an assist.

La Roche absolutely dominated underneath. LRU out-rebounded the Panthers 55-39. In their last two games, the Redhawks have out-rebounded their opponents 102-70. The black and red scored 40 of their 82 points inside the paint in Monday's 34-point win, their largest margin of victory this season.

Women's basketball extended their win streak to ten games after tonight's victory and remain undefeated in conference play at 11-0. La Roche owns a two-game lead over Hilbert (9-2) in the AMCC standings. The Redhawks have defeated their last five opponents by an average margin of victory of 17.2 points.

How it Happened

The Panthers struck first in today's contest off a La Roche turnover, but the Redhawks answered with an 8-0 run to take a 10-2 lead early in the first quarter.The Panthers would then go on a short 6-0 run to make it a two point game before La Roche struck back with another 8-0 run to go ahead 18-8. The Redhawks would retain their 10 point lead throughout the remainder of the first.

The AMCC opponents exchanged buckets through the first two minutes of the second quarter before LRU went on 7-0 run to go up by 16, which would prove to be their largest lead of the night. The Panthers would fail to cut the deficit below 10 points before the half, La Roche led 43-30 heading into halftime.

Halfway through the third quarter, La Roche held their 13-point lead. Then, the Redhawks went on a 6-0 run the last five minutes of the quarter to go ahead 57-38 entering the last ten minutes of the contest. 

The Redhawks put on an absolute show in the fourth, outscoring the host team 25-10 while shooting 10 of 17 (59%) from the field and 3 of 5 (60%) from three-point range.

La Roche's bench was a major factor in Monday night's win. Seven Redhawks recorded 26 points, 20 rebounds, 8 assists, 7 steals, and one block off the bench.

The Redhawks held Pitt Bradford to 20 of 68 (29%) from the field and 2 of 14 (14%) from three-point range.

La Roche knocked down 15 of 20 (75%) free throw attempts. The Redhawks have shot 49 of 64 (77%) from the line over their last three games.
