Panther Basketball Drops Consolation Game to SUNY Poly

Pittsfield, N.Y. - The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's basketball team fell to SUNY Poly in the consolation game of the Woodcliff Hotel and Spa holiday tournament on Monday afternoon. The final score of the contest was 78-56 in favor of the Wildcats.

Game Notes:

  • The Panthers got off to a quick start in the game as Nick Carmichael ws able to hit his first shot of the day to put the Panthers ahead. After allowing two baskets in a row, Pitt-Bradford retook the lead on an Alex Breindel three.
  • The Wildcats took control from there, outscoring the Panthers 16-5 over the next 7 minutes. They continued their run throughout the remainder of the half, pushing their lead to 21 at the break.
  • SUNY Poly continued to add to the lead after the break, scoring the first 6 points of the half, to force the Panthers into a timeout. Pitt-Bradford was able to respond to the timeout as Alex Rodriguez scored 5 straight out of the break, first hitting a three pointer and then following that up with a mid range jumper.
  • The Panthers were able to get the lead under 20 temporarily with 15 to go in the game. Alex Breindel started the rally with a three pointer. Pitt-Bradford forced back to back turnovers and added three more points on a Gavin Boggs free throw an a layup from Dylan Meyer. Miles Parker forced the Wildcats into a time out with a three ball of his own to get the lead to 17. 

Leaders:

  • Nick Carmichael led the Panthers in scoring, finishing with 17 points. He made 7 of 13 from the field, hit the only three he attempted and made 2 of 4 from the line. He also led the Panthers with 7 rebounds.
  • Alex Breindel was the only other Panther to finish in double figures. The freshman scored a career high 12 points. He hit 4 of 6 from beyond the arc and 3 of 5 from the line. 

The loss moves the Panthers' record to 1-9 on the season. They have finished their non-conference competition for the year, as they will take on AMCC opponents for the remainder of the season. They will start the new year on Saturday when they travel to Pitt-Greensburg. The game will tip-off at 2:00 p.m.
