Bluffton stuns La Roche in minute 84

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Bluffton University men's soccer team wrapped up their weekend trip to Pennsylvania with a 1-0 victory over La Roche University on Sunday, Sept. 18. The Beavers improved to 2-1-3 on the season while the Red Hawks fell to 0-5-1. 

Defense was the name of the game with the only goal being scored in minute 84 when Maximillian Pierce (Middletown/Lebanon) netted his first tally of the season, assisted by Andrew Ireland (Coshocton/River View), for a 1-0 Beaver victory. Helping power the Bluffton offense was Dalton Taynor (Troy/Miami East) with five shots, three on goal.

Bluffton keeper Angel Velasco-Urbina (Lexington, Ky/Henry Clay) tallied three saves in the victory, compared to 15 for La Roche. The Beavers outshot the Red Hawks 21-6 (19-4 on goal). Bluffton forced seven more corner kicks (7-0), while also being whistled for five fewer fouls (9-4).

The Beaver men will head home and take the pitch again on Thursday, Sept. 22, when they welcome Albion College to the Sears Athletic Complex. Kickoff is slated for 4:30 p.m. Go Beavers!
