Petitte's Grand Slam Lifts Lions Past Pitt-Greensburg; Softball Falls in Game One

GREENSBURG, Pa. - Meghan Petitte (Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) hit a grand slam in game two, helping The Penn State Behrend softball team split an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) doubleheader with Pitt-Greensburg. The Lions won the nightcap, 9-5, while falling 9-1 in game one.

Game One: Pitt-Greensburg 9, Penn State Behrend 1

Key Moments: 

* Melanie Mienke struck out eight and allowed just four hits to lead the Bobcats past the Lions in five innings
* Pitt-Greensburg tallied nine hits, including six in the five-run second inning to take the lead for good
* Jocelyn McNany (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) and Cami McNany (Emlenton, PA/Allegheny-Clarion Valley) each had an extra-base it
* Emi Curcio (Perryopolis, PA/Frazier) tallied the lone RBI single to score the one run in the top of the second
* The Bobcats added two runs in the third, one in the fourth an another in the fifth  
* Kayla Lindberg (Austinburg, OH/Geneva) started the game and pitched 1.1 innings for the loss before making way to Kaitlyn Ezzone (Ashtabula, OH/Edgewood)

Key Moments: 

* Petitte went 2-for-5 with four RBIs to help the Lions get the split
* Petitte and Sierra Williams (Grove City, PA/Lakeview) each tallied a home run
* Behrend trailed 5-2 heading into the sixth inning, but only needed three hits to score three runs at the top of the frame to take an 8-5 lead
* In the sixth, the Lions loaded the bases before Abby Tingley (Union City, PA/Union City) was hit by a pitch to walk in pinch runner Kamryn Gates-Bowersox (Union City, PA/Union City)
* A walk with the bases still loaded knocked in Lexi Edgett (Frisco, TX/Lone Star) setting the scene for Petitte's grand slam with two outs
* Williams recorded her homer in the seventh inning, a solo unearned run for the final margin
* Tingley pitched a complete game, allowing five runs on 10 hits and striking out four to get her fifth win
