Behrend Softball Wins Twice in Florida

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Penn State Behrend softball team won by identical scores on day two of spring break, defeating Carnegie Mellon and Nebraska Wesleyan 4-3 in non-conference action in Auburndale, Florida on Monday.

Game One: Penn State Behrend 4, Carnegie Mellon 3 
Records: Penn State Behrend (2-1), Carnegie Mellon (2-4)

Noteworthy: 

* Outfielder Sierra Williams (Grove City, PA/Lakeview) hit her first home run of the season in the top of the fifth inning for the game-winning hit and run
* The Tartans scored all three runs in the first two innings to take a 3-2 lead
* In the bottom of the fourth, Chloe McLaughlin (Greenville, PA/Reynolds) hit an RBI single to score Britney Shaw (St. Mary's, PA/St. Mary's) to even the score at 3-all
* Tied up heading into the fifth, Williams was the first to the plate and hit one out of the park for the eventual game-winning run
* Pitcher Abby Tingley (Union City, PA/Union City) got her first collegiate win and Maria Jones (Wilcox, PA/Johnsonburg) recorded the save

Game Two:  Penn State Behrend 4, Nebraska Wesleyan 3

Noteworthy: 

* For the second straight game, Williams smacked a home run to set the Lions up with the eventual-game winning run
* Williams was the lone player to record a pair of hits and a pair of RBIs
* Behrend grabbed a 4-0 lead after the top of the sixth inning
* In the first, Alexia Brown (Wexford, PA/Pine-Richland) walked, advanced to second on a wild pitch and then stole third to get into scoring position with no outs
* C. McNany (Emlenton, PA/Allegheny-Clarion Valley) grounds out to score Brown before Emi Curcio (Perryopolis, PA/Frazier) scored on a single by Jocelyn McNany (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) for a 2-0 lead
* Williams' two-run homer gave the Lions a four-run advantage with two innings left
* Nebraska Wesleyan scored two runs in the sixth and added another in the seventh for the final 4-3 margin
* Kayla Lindberg (Austinburg, OH/Geneva) registered the win, facing 16 batters
* Tingley followed up her win with her first collegiate save
* Behrend finished with four funs on six hits and three errors
