Panthers Back in Win Column with Sweep of Hilbert

Hamburg, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's volleyball team made quick work of Hilbert on Tuesday night, sweeping their hosts in 3 sets.

Coming off of their first loss in over a month, the Panthers breezed to a 25-9 victory in the opener, won the second 25-15, and closed with an easy 25-12 win in the third.

  • The Panthers came out firing in the first set, jumping out to an early 9-3 lead. Jordan Sitler had 3 kills and a block in the early rally as Olivia Reese and Tabitha Walker added in service aces. The Panthers extended their lead into double digits with a run that saw them score 12 of 13 points to put the opening set to bed. The Panthers scored 4 in a row with Emily Cleveland serving, only to see Eve Brink step in and serve the Panthers to 6 more points. The Panthers forced their hosts into numerous errors, while Olivia Reese added 3 kills. After the HAwks pulled two back with the Panthers on set point, a Hilbert service error brought it to a close to give the Panthers the early advantage.
  • The second set of the night saw the Hawks put up an early fight as they stayed with the Panthers early. After scoring three straight points to tie the set at 11, the Panthers called a time out to slow the rally and responded after the break. Following the timeout, the Panthers scored 6 straight and eight of 9 to build an insurmountable lead. Morgan Lorenzo started the rally with a kill and Jordan Sitler recorded two aces in a 6 point serving run for Pitt-Bradford. The Hawks brought the lead back to 5, but the Panthers closed the set by scoring the final 5 points to build a commanding 2-0 lead. Emma King had two kills in the rally while Sitler and Walker added a block and Kayla Maslowski tallied an ace.
  • The Panthers continued building momentum as the match headed into its final set. After the teams split the opening 8 points, the Panthers scored 12 straight to push the match to the brink. Eve Brink recorded 5 service aces in the rally and Emily Cleveland had two kills. Cleveland added 4 more kills as the match wound to a close and Taylor King finished it with a service ace.

Emily Cleveland led the way for the Panthers with 10 kills on 14 swings, playing only two sets. Jordan Sitler had 6 kills on the day, while Morgan Lorenzo set a new career-high with 7 kills. Tabitha Walker had 20 assists, and Chloe Bellis added 9 more in one set of action. Stephanie Carson led the defensive effort with 10 digs. The Panthers were dominant from the service line, recording 13 service aces in the match. Eve Brink led the way with 5, while Sitler was the only other Panther with multiple aces as she finished with 2.

The Panthers move to 15-4 on the season with a 3-1 record in AMCC play. They will be back on the road for their next match, as they head to Penn State Altoona love the weekend. The game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start on Saturday afternoon.
