Men's Basketball Emerges Victorious from Battle with Behrend

PITTSBURGH, PA - The men's basketball team had a tough win ahead of the them in the Penn State-Behrend Lions. The last time La Roche faced off with Behrend they lost by one point, 75-74. Tonight, the Redhawks were able to emerge triumphant with a final winning score of 64-59.

The energy from the women's game had returned and the crowd and the players were taut. Both teams fought, and at the end of half, the Redhawks were down by one, not seeming to get the lead and keep it.

It's important to note that during this game there were 12 lead changes, and eight ties. Neither team went on a scoring run that was greater than seven, and the biggest lead held by a team was eight points.

Luckily for the Redhawks, Devon Darrell was on his game, and netted 22 points, shooting 60 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from the arc, and 50 percent from the foul line. He also contributed five rebounds and three assists.

In the final minutes of the second half, La Roche was finally able to power through and keep the lead. For this contest, LRU spent 10 minutes and 12 seconds with the lead, compared to Behrend's 24 minutes and 54 seconds that they had the lead. This shows the tenacity and perseverance the Redhawk team has to push through to a win.

The team's defense pushed the Lions to six turnovers, to which the La Roche offense turned into eight points. In the paint, the Redhawks worked hard and had 26 points, as well as hustling on fast breaks to earn 15 points.

Kadyn Hannah earned 11 points for the scorebook, working hard in the paint.

Starting his third game of the season, Joe Starzynski netted 10 points, shooting 50 percent form the three point line. He also had three BIG blocks for the Redhawks, keeping the momentum of the game, and the energy levels high.

Joe Pipilo was the final athlete to get into the double digits club with 10. Pipilo went 4-9 (44.4 percent) in field goal territory, 50 percent from three point range.

The Redhawks are back in action at home this Saturday (February 19, 2022) against Medaille. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
