Redhawks Dominate Mounties, 91-46

McCANDLESS, Pa. - La Roche women's basketball earned their largest victory of the season Wednesday evening by defeating Mt. Aloysius at home, 91-46, the most points scored by LRU this season. The Redhawks took down the Mounties in both regular season meetings in 2019-20 by a combined 79 points. 11 of the 12 Redhawks who appeared in tonight's contest scored, led by Senior forward Jenna Cole.

Cole put together one of her best performances on the season in Wednesday night's victory. She posted her third double-double of 2019-20 with a game/season-high 22 points and 10 rebounds. Cole shot an efficient 8 of 12 (67%) from the field and 5 of 6 (83%) from the free throw line. She also added two assists and a steal.

As a unit, La Roche knocked down a season-high 36 field goals on 65 attempts (55%, also a season best).

Ayanna Mazyck posted 16 points for the second straight game and contributed four rebounds, an assist and five steals.

Shaundrea Butler finished with 12 points and a game-high six assists.

Dasja Anderson nearly recorded a double-double, posting eight points and 12 rebounds. Anderson has averaged 11.3 rebounds over her last three games.

With a 13-1 record in conference play, La Roche remains the top seed in the conference.

How it Happened 

La Roche came out cold to start the contest, missing their first four shots on one possession. Jenna Cole scored the first bucket of the game before the Mounties went on a 9-2 run to gain a five point lead with 6:12 still to play in the first. Over the next three minutes, La Roche managed to tie the game at 11 points a piece. LRU ended the quarter on a 9-4 run to go ahead 20-15 after one quarter of play.

In the second quarter, the Redhawks offense caught fire. Sparked by a 9-0 run midway through the second, La Roche would outscore the Mounties 27-11 in the quarter. The Redhawks shot an impeccable 11 of 18 (61%) from the floor in the second. LRU headed into halftime ahead 47-26.

Despite La Roche's reserves playing a majority of the final two quarters, the Redhawks built on their lead, outscoring Mt. Aloysius 44-20 over the final 20 minutes. LRU would win the contest by 45 points, their largest margin of victory this season.

Inside the Box Score

The Redhawks dominated underneath, out-rebounding the Mounties 53-26 and out-scoring them inside the paint 58-24.

All seven of La Roche's bench players contributed in tonight's victory. The bench posted 24 points, 19 rebounds, five assists, three steals and four blocks.

The Redhawks recroded 19 assists as a unit. Over their last five games, they have averaged 17.2 assists.

LRU held Mt. Aloysius' offense to just 28% shooting (17-61) from the field.

All three ties and two lead changes came in the first quarter.

Rachel Robinson and Ryana Hockenos of Mt. Aloysius combined for 28 of the Mounties 46 points.
