Scots Compete in First Half Behind Biondi's Season-High 22 Points

Chloe Pordash The College of Wooster women's basketball team trailed by eight at halftime against Penn State Behrend before the Lions took control for a 91-55 win on Wednesday.

Penn State Behrend's Rachel Majewski, who entered averaging 21.4 ppg on the season, led all scorers with 24 points. Wooster first-year Ella Biondi was right behind her with a season-high 22 points and nine rebounds, which tied for the game-high.

Biondi scored 14 points and grabbed five rebounds in the first half alone as Wooster stayed within the Lions to trail 43-35 at halftime. In fact, Wooster won the second quarter 18-16, as all seven players who saw time in the first half scored.

Wooster's first three scores were 3-pointers from Harley HollowayElla Dean and Paige Wells as the Scots trailed 10-9 before Penn State Behrend won the quarter 27-17. 

Wooster opened the second quarter with a 9-0 run to cut its deficit to two within the first two minutes and trailed by eight at halftime.

The third quarter was all Penn State Behrend as its size and speed came up with a 31-9 quarter that carried them to the win.

The Lions outrebounded Wooster 54-34 and exceled on fast break opportunities with 23 points.

Wooster finished the game shooting 36 percent (20-of-56) from the floor, 21 percent (4-of-19) from range and 11-of-16 (69 percent) from the foul line.

First-year Chloe Pordash finished with eight points and eight rebounds. The senior Wells finished with seven points.

Penn State Behrend improves to 4-2. Wooster moves to 1-5. The Scots travel to the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg on Saturday.
