Altoona, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's tennis team lost 5-4 to Penn State-Altoona on Sunday, in a match that was crucial to their postseason hopes.

The Panthers got off to a strong start in the match, winning two matches in doubles play. Lauryn Moore and Madilyn Rogers won the top match 8-4, while Caroline Hance and Lydia Ehrensberger won 8-3 at #2.

Things did not go as well for the Panthers in singles play, as they were only able to win 2 of 6 matches. Madilyn Rogers picked up an important 6-2, 6-4 win at #2, while Caroline Hance was dominant in the #4 match, winning 6-0, 6-1. 

The match was decided in the closest pairing of the day. At #3, Abigail Martin played well but ultimately lost in two close sets. She lost the opener 6-7 on a tiebreaker that went 2-7 to the hosts. This was followed by a tight 5-7 loss in the second set.

The Panthers wrap up their AMCC competition with a 2-4 record. With losses to the four teams above them in the standings, tiebreaker situations do not favor the Panthers and their postseason hopes. 

While they will not likely advance to the AMCC postseason, they will continue competing this season in non-conference action. It will begin this Wednesday when the Panthers host Alfred in a match rescheduled from earlier this season. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. on the Tennis Courts at the Kessel Athletic Complex.
