Behrend Softball Splits Twinbill at Hiram

HIRAM, Ohio – The Penn State Behrend softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Hiram on Thursday. The Lions posted a 1-0 victory in the opener and fell 4-3 in game two.

Game One: Penn State Behrend 1, Hiram 0
Records: Penn State Behrend (9-10), Hiram (12-9)

Key Moments: 

* The Lions scored the lone run of the game in the sixth inning off a pair of hits
* Jocelyn McNany (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) singled and advanced on an error from Meghan Pettite's (Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) at-bat
* Lexi Edgett (Frisco, TX/Lone Star) had the eventual game-winning hit with a single to left field to score McNany
* Behrend recorded five hits; two in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the sixth
* Kayla Lindberg (Austinburg, OH/Geneva) threw a six-hit shutout and fanned four
* The Terriers threatened in the first inning with bases loaded and two outs
* Each team stranded six over the seven innings

Key Moments: 

* Darian Kanno hit a walk-off sacrifice fly to score Megan Moser for the game winner, breaking a 3-all tie in the seventh
* With one out, Moser tripled and then scored off Kanno's fly out to centerfield for the final
* Pettite and Kayla Salvini (McDonald, PA/Fort Cherry) each tallied two hits for the Lions
* The Lions totaled seven hits, including three in the first inning that put them ahead 2-0
* Hiram scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-2 lead
* Behrend tied it up in the seventh on a double by McNany to score Sierra Williams (Grove City, PA/Lakeview), who walked to start the inning
* The Terriers stopped the Lions with bases loaded with an out at home plate and then forced a ground out to keep the game knotted at 3
* Abby Tingley (Union City, PA/Union City) completed the game, striking out two and allowing three earned runs on nine hits for the loss
