Men's Basketball Drops One in Overtime Battle

Men's Basketball Drops One in Overtime Battle

PITTSBURGH, PA - La Roche University's men's basketball team went right to the wire with the Hilbert Hawks in tonight's overtime matchup, but came up four points short of a victory.

In the first half things were looking good for the Redhawks. The team went to the locker room at half up by six points, hoping to continue that momentum when they entered the second half. Unfortunately for La Roche, that was not the case. The shooting percentage which had previously been 50 percent from field goal range dropped to 40.5 percent, as well as their three point shooting which had previously been 46 percent, ended with a 28 percent. And while these are numbers that tell the story, the real downfall was in the paint.

When the final buzzer blew at the end of overtime, the Hawks had scored 50 points in the paint, while LRU had only netted 38.

With this high stakes of a game, comes big accomplishments. Freshman, Kadyn Hannah beat his record high points (previously 30) scoring 36 in today's contest. Hannah shot 75 percent from the three point line, only missing one shot, shot 100 percent at the foul line, and shot 62 percent from field goal range. Hannah averages 12 points a game, and is only improving as time goes on, and he gains more experience on a collegiate court.

Earning a double double today was sophomore Joe Pipilo. Pipilo netted 20 points, and brought down 13 rebounds, capturing his first double double of the 2021-22 season. He was also able to share four assists.

The Redhawks are back Monday, for a non-conference matchup with Hiram, with a 6 PM tipoff on Coach Scott Lang Court.
