Behrend Softball Falls Twice on Tuesday in Florida

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Penn State Behrend softball team dropped a pair non-conference games on day three of spring break, falling 8-4 to Sage and 5-4 to Dominican (Ill.) in eight innings on Tuesday.

Game One: Sage 8, Penn State Behrend 4
Records: Penn State Behrend (3-2), Sage (4-3)

Noteworthy: 

* The Lions took a 3-0 lead with two runs in the second and one in the third
* Sierra Williams (Grove City, PA/Lakeview) started the soring with a sacrifice fly to get home Jocelyn McNany (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley), who reached on an error
* Kayla Salvini (McDonald, PA/Fort Cherry) doubled and Nicole DeRose (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) followed with a single to score Salvini for a 2-0 lead
* J. McNany tallied a double to get Chloe McLaughlin (Greenville, PA/Reynolds) on third
* Williams grounded out to get McLaughlin in for a 3-0 advantage
* Sage cut the lead to 3-2 in the sixth, but Behrend added another run in the bottom of the frame to make it 4-2
* The Gators took their first and last lead in the seventh, scoring six runs on seven hits for an 8-4 edge with one half inning left
* DeRose finished 2-for-3 in the game
* Maria Jones (Wilcox, PA/Johnsonburg) suffered the loss in the circle, coming in the fifth inning for the Lions

Game Two:  Dominican (Ill.) 5, Penn State Behrend 4
Records: Dominican (Ill.) (7-0), Penn State Behrend (3-3)
 
Noteworthy: 

* Dominican registered a walk-off double in the bottom of the eighth to remain undefeated on the season
* Similar to game one, Behrend jumped out to a 3-0 lead before falling behind
* Smith and J. McNany each went 2-for-4, while McNany tallied a pair of doubles to make it three for the day
* Freshman Alix Lytle (Warren, PA/Warren) registered her first collegiate home run in the sixth to tie the game at 4-all
* Dominican rallied in the fourth thanks to a three-run homer from third-base Davis with two outs showing
* Jones suffered her second loss of the day, finishing the final 3.1 innings 

Next Up: 
 
* The Lions return to action Thursday against Emmanuel (Mass.) and Geneva in Florida. Games being at 9 a.m.
