Men's Soccer Drops Season Opener at Geneva

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. - The La Roche men's soccer team fell to non-conference opponent Geneva College, 4-0 in their season opener Wednesday evening.

The Golden Tornadoes dominated from start to finish. Four different Geneva players scored and seven registered at least one point. Geneva scored two goals in the first half and two in the second. The home team outshot La Roche 26-2. Geneva registered 15 shots on goal while LRU was unable to register one.

Freshman goalkeeper Benedict Mattingly (Pittsburgh, PA/Taylor Allderdice) got the start in net for the Redhawks. In his collegiate debut, he registered five saves and allowed two goals. Mattingly played for the whole duration of the first.

In the second, senior goalkeeper Denali Nicholas (Christiansted, Virgin Islands / St. Croix Central) subbed in. He played the entirety of the second half, registering six saves and allowing two goals.

Next Up: It will be another week until the Redhawks can seek redemption from their season opening loss when they travel to Waynesburg on Wednesday, September 8th. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
