Redhawks Drop Pair To Pioneers

ALFRED, N.Y. – La Roche softball traveled to Alfred State for a doubleheader on Sunday in AMCC play. In game one, the Redhawks saw a late lead slip away, falling 11-7, then in game two, the Pioneers had it all working, taking a 10-2 victory in five innings.

GAME ONE: Alfred State 11 La Roche 7

Alfred State opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first to take the early lead.

La Roche took the lead in the top of the second, plating a pair of runs behind a Makenzie Formeck RBI ground out and an Emma Bizay RBI double as it was now 2-1.

The Pioneers would match the score in the bottom of the third with an RBI single as it was now even 2-2.

Three Redhawks would cross the plate in the top of the fifth to build a 5-2 edge.

Kynnydy Lewis drove in Bizay to make it 3-2 with an RBI double, then Garrah Milochik's sacrifice fly crossed Lewis, then Maura Wade also scored on the same play on an error.

Alfred State had a huge response in the bottom of the fifth, stunning La Roche to the tune of seven runs to take a 9-5 lead, then added a pair in the bottom of the sixth to make it 11-5.

The Redhawks would score the final two runs in the top of the seventh, as Lewis drove in Bizay with a sacrifice fly, then Ashtin Hoover crossed after an error.

Maura Wafe got the start and across 4+ innings allowed seven runs (six earned), nine hits, three walks and struck out two.

Klover Haberthier threw three innings of relief, allowing four runs (two earned), three hits and one walk.

Offensively, the Redhawks ended with nine hits, as Bizay went 3-for-4, while Hoover and Lewis each had 2-for-3 showings.

GAME TWO: Alfred State 10 La Roche 2 F/5

Game two saw Alfred State jump ahead quickly, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first after a La Roche error plated the first run and then a grand slam added four more to it.

The Pioneers then added three more runs in the bottom of the third inning to add to their lead and make it an 8-0 game.

Bizay would pull through for the Redhawks in the top of the fifth, as her RBI double scored Formeck to make it 8-1, then she would score on an error to move needle to 8-2.

Alfred State would close the door in the bottom of the fifth after an RBI triple and a wild pitch plated the two runs needed for the run-rule victory

In game two, Emma Kaufman took the circle, and in four innings of work, allowed eight runs (seven earned), five walks and struck out two.

Lewis through in relief, but was unable to record an out, allowing two runs, two hits and a walk.

Offensively, the Redhawks had five hits, as five batters each had one.

La Roche returns to action on Wednesday, May 1, when it travels to Pitt-Greensburg for its final AMCC doubleheader of the season. First pitch for game one is slated for 3 p.m.
