Women's Basketball Falls to Hilbert on the Road, 70-63

HAMBURG, N.Y. - La Roche women's basketball dropped their first AMCC Game of the Week of the season Saturday afternoon at Hilbert, 70-63. The Redhawks are now 3-1 in AMCC GOTW in 2019-20. LRU relinquished a four point halftime lead by getting outscored 37-26 in the second half. The Redhawks shot just 3 of 14 (21.4%) from the field in the fourth quarter. Today's contest saw 13 ties and 12 lead changes.

Dasja Anderson finished with team-high's in points (18) and rebounds (11), picking up her second double-double of the season. Anderson shot 50% (7-14) from the floor and added two assists, two steals and a block.

Jenna Cole contributed 13 points and nine rebounds. Ayanna Mazyck added 12 points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal. Shaundrea Butler posted nine points, two steals and a game-high five assists.

As a unit, the Redhawks shot 35.5% (22-62) from the field, their worst shooting percentage in nine games. La Roche especially struggled from three-point range, where they knocked down just 4 of 21 (19%) attempts, their third worst percentage from deep in a game this season.

Despite today's loss, LRU, now 16-2 in conference play, still hold a one game lead over Hilbert (15-3) in the AMCC standings. With two regular season conference games still to play, the Redhawks still control their own destiny for tournament seeding.

How it Happened

The Redhawks struggled out of the gates in today's contest, missing their first six shot attempts allowing Hilbert to take an early 9-3 lead. La Roche would bounce back and drain 4 of their next 8 shot attempts to tie the game 13-13 by the end of the first quarter.

LRU produced an 10-0 run halfway through the second capped off by a Sidney Farmer 3-PT to go up 31-23; the seven point lead would prove to be their largest of the game. La Roche managed to maintain their advtange and headed into the break up 37-33. Heading into today's game, the Redhawks were 15-0 this season when leading at halftime.

Hilbert regained the lead at the 4:23 mark of the third after back-to-back buckets from Emily Gawlak. The Hawks would maintain their slim cushion and headed into the final quarter ahead 54-53. La Roche would regain the lead twice in the first six minutes of the fourth, ahead 61-59 with 4:42 to play. Then, Hilbert completely took over and finished the contest on an 11-2 run to win 70-63.

On a positive note, the Redhawks knocked down 15 of 19 (78.9%) free throw attempts, tied for the second most made free throws in a game this season.

La Roche outscored the Hawks in the paint 34-22 but got out-rebounded 35-41. After rattling off nine straight games with 40 or more rebounds, the Redhawks have averaged just 33.7 rebounds in their last three games.

Hilbert capitalized on 22 personal Redhawk fouls by knocking down 22 of 28 (78.6%) free throw attempts, their second most made FT in a game this season. It marks just the third time in La Roche's last 18 games they have committed 20 or more personal fouls; they've lost two of those three games.

Hilbert's Emily Gawlak finished with a game-high 20 points. Three other Hawks scored in double-digit figures.
