LRU MSOC Wins AMCC Opener vs. Hilbert

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The La Roche men's soccer program claimed their first victory of this season against Hilbert College Saturday afternoon, with the final score of 3-1. The Redhawks won the first AMCC game of the season thanks to three goals scored by three different players. 

LRU took an early lead in the first period whem junior midfielder Ryan Truax (Chicora, PA / Karns City) scored an unassisted goal 25 minutes into the game. Hilbert managed to tie it in the second period, only for junior forward Jake Gorman (Ambridge, PA / Ambridge) to score another unassisted goal. Gorman has scored a team-high four goals this season, ranking him 8th individually in the conference. Less than 10 minutes later, senior midfielder Ali Shareef (Pittsburgh, PA / City High) scored with his first career goal to make it 3-1, off an assist from Gorman.

La Roche recorded 16 shots to Hibert's 5. LRU registered a season-high 11 shots on goal. LRU's defense allowed just two shots on goal. In his first start of the season, senior goalkeeper Denali Nicholas picked up his first career shutout, making two saves.
