Panthers Fall to Penn-State Altoona on the Road

Altoona, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's basketball team was unable to effectively handle a high-pressure Penn State-Altoona defense, as they committed 27 turnovers in a 97-66 loss to the Lions.

Game Notes:

  • Dylan Meyer hit a free throw to start the scoring in the game, but the Lions quickly answered with five straight points. A Nick Carmichael three cut the lead to 1 and the Panthers defense kept them within 1 point for the first 5 minutes of action. 
  • Penn State-Altoona went on a 6-0 run to increase their lead to 7 before the Panthers were able to get buckets on back to back possessions to get back in the game. Deondre Terwilliger converted a lay-up to end the run and Nathan Nunn made a layup on a feed from Meyer to put the Panthers down 3. 
  • Over the next 4 minutes, the Lions put together another long rally, outscoring the Panthers 20-5 over the stretch.
  • Carmichael took over for the Panthers with 6 minutes to go in the half, scoring 11 straight points for the Pitt-Bradford. In the same span, the Lions were able to slowly push their lead to 18 points, but a three from Nunn on the Panthers' last possession of the half sent the game to the break with the score 46-31.
  • The Lions came out of the break firing, quickly increasing their lead to more than 20. The Panthers were able to keep the lead from expanding beyond 20 for the first five minutes of the half due to 4 points From Alex Breindel and baskets from Meyer and Daniel Lynch.
  • Another 5-minute Pitt-Bradford Scoring drought saw the deficit grow to over 30. Nick Carmichael kept the Lions from increasing their lead again, scoring 8 straight for the Panthers.
  • Penn-State Altoona was able to maintain the lead for the remainder of the contest despite 8 late points from Deondre Terwilliger.

Leaders:

  • Carmichael led all scorers in the game with 23 points. He shot 10-12 from the field and made both threes he attempted. He also finished with a game-high 14 rebounds.
  • Nathan Nunn took advantage of a season-high 23 minutes, scoring 12 points on 5-11 from the field. He also grabbed four rebounds and led the Panthers with 4 assists.
  • Deondre Terwilliger also finished in double figures for Pitt-Bradford, scoring 10 points. 

The loss moves the Panthers' record to 1-20 on the season and 0-16 in AMCC play. They will be on the road for the final time Wednesday, as they head to Buffalo to take on Hilbert. After the midweek game, the Panthers play their final three games at home.
