Anderton Scores Two as Panthers Drop Season Finale

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's soccer team saw its 2021 campaign come to a close on Tuesday, as the Panthers lost 6-2 to Juniata College.

Playing in rainy conditions, the Panthers fell behind the visiting eagles after 10 minutes. The guests were able to get behind the defense and slip a shot to the right of oncoming goalkeeper Emily Bethel to go ahead. They doubled their advantage 4 minutes later, with a long effort that was able to get over Bethel's head and into the netting. After another 4 minutes, the Eagles scored a third on another breakaway. In the 24th minute, the Panthers were able to claw a goal back.

Following a foul just outside the box, Emily Goetz took a low shot towards the corner that forced a save out of the Juniata keeper. Cassidy King was able to control the rebound but was unable to hold possession. Katie Anderton was the first to react to the loose ball and took a one-time shot from close range into the net to cut the lead to 3-1. The Panthers were unable to maintain momentum after the Anderton goal, as a low cross from the end line went off a Pitt-Bradford defender in the 35th minute to restore the three-goal advantage.

In the second half, Juniata was able to extend their lead to five with goals in the 62nd and 75th minutes. The Panthers were able to get a final goal in the 82nd minute. Carolelyn LaPrairie was able to dribble into the 18-yard box where she was fouled, resulting in a penalty kick. Anderton stepped up to take the penalty, and converted it, putting a perfectly placed shot into the upper corner for the goal.

Anderton scored both goals for the Panthers on 3 shots, all of which were on target. The brace gives the senior 5 goals on the season, which leads the team. Emily Goetz took 5 shots for the Panthers, putting both on goal. Alannah Allen and Carolelyn LaPrairie also registered a shot on goal each. Emily Bethel made 6 saves in her final collegiate game. Sadie wood played 12 minutes in goal for the Panthers and made 2 saves.

The Panthers finish the season with an 0-15-2 record overall and an 0-7-1 record in AMCC play.
