Women's Basketball is 10-0 in Conference Play; Completes Sweep against Penn State-Behrend Lions

ERIE, PA - Women's basketball hit the road this evening to take on the Penn State-Behrend Lions.

This game was something that both teams needed to win. The last time the Redhawks faced off with the Lions, La Roche came out with an overtime victory. This afternoon the team is looking to continue their undefeated conferenced streak and sweep the Lions. Behrend is looking to take away the Redhawks' undefeated streak.

The contest saw 10 lead changes and 6 ties.

Machia Hairston recorded another double-double this afternoon against the Lions. Hairston netted 23 points and snagged 11 rebounds.

Going into the fourth and final quarter, La Roche had a comfortable 10-point lead, but as all basketball fans know 10 minutes is a lot of time to have things change drastically.

Sanders led the offensive charge with 26 buckets. The senior also earned 5 steals and 3 assists.

With 2:46 remaining in the final period, after a rough turnover, the Redhawks were only up by six points. Behrend decided to challenge the team's ability to make things happen on offense and started a full-court press. La Roch through their discipline was able to break the press without many problems.

Alexis Robison was able to put up and make a second chance three-point shot for the team, increasing their lead to 9 points with 1:40 on the clock. Robison ended the game with 10 total points, 2 assists, and 1 steal.

La Roche stood strong, and in the end, was able to complete their sweep over the Lions, and hold on to their undefeated title.

Makayla Abram was the final Redhawk to earn double digits in tonight's contest. The sophomore ended the game with 11 points and 4 rebounds.

The final score was 82-72 in favor of the Redhawks.
