Geneva Downs Men's Soccer at Home

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The La Roche men's soccer team was defeated by the visiting Geneva Golden Tornadoes this afternoon at the Baierl Sports Complex to fall to 2-5 on the season. Geneva played an aggressive style, recording 28 fouls compared to La Roche's 12. There were also three yellow cards handed out in the contest (La Roche: Dante Nicholas (68:55), Geneva: Chase Baxa (27:50) & Zach O'Connor (89:55))

Geneva struck first in the seventh minute of the match after Junior forward Kevin Pasho headed the ball into the back of the net after it bounced off a few Redhawk defenders. Then, in the 27th minute, Senior midfielder Firas Abduljawad shot a hard free kick from 25 yards out to the low right side of the goal past Geneva's goal-keeper. Firas has now scored in back-to-back games and totalled an impressive 6 points (2 goals, 2 assists) between the two contests. He is also now tied for third in the AMCC in both goals (4) and points (10). 

Shortly after, in the 35th minute, Sophomore forward Alex Yoder of Geneva scored off a corner kick that trickled in past GK Austin Gorman. In the second half, the lone goal came when a Geneva forward kicked the ball off the back of Tanner Cook's foot and went into La Roche's net recording the first own-goal of the season for the Redhawks.

Geneva dominated the time of possession for most of the match, recording 19 shots (11 on goal) compared to La Roche's 6 shots (3 on goal). In their previous five games entering today, Geneva had a total of 15 shots on goal.
