Men's Soccer Falls to Westminster in Home Opener

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The La Roche men's soccer team moved to 0-3 Monday afternoon after losing their home opener to Westminster College in a non-conference match. The Titans spoiled the day with a 5-0 shutout victory as they are now 3-3 this season.

The visitors were dominant from the start. The Titans scored their first goal less than 10 minutes into the first of a 25-yard free kick. Westminster scored again late in the first and headed into halftime ahead 2-0.

The Titans continued to pile on and scored three more goals in the second and would go on to win 5-0. Five different Westminster players scored in the game and eight registered at least one point.

The Redhawks were out-shot 41-2. Westminster managed 17 shots on goal while LRU was not able to get one.

Freshman goalkeeper Benedict Mattingly (Pittsburgh, PA/Taylor Allderdice) played the full 90 minutes in net for the first time this season. The La Roche GK made a season-high 12 saves.
