Redhawks Sweep Franciscan In Non-Conference Play

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche softball returned home to face Franciscan in doubleheader action on Monday afternoon. Game one was dominated by the Redhawks, winning in run rule fashion, while game two, La Roche finished the sweep with a 5-1 victory.

GAME ONE: La Roche 13 Franciscan 4 F/6

Game one started with Franciscan jumping ahead in the top of the first with an RBI double to make it 1-0.

La Roche wasted no time responding, taking control with a five-run bottom of the first inning, bringing 10 batters to the plate.

A Baron error opened the scoring, tying the game at 1-1 when Maura Wade scored.

Three batters later, with the bases loaded, Makenzie Formeck delivered a bases clearing triple to move the score to 4-1 and would later score on a second Franciscan error in the inning.

The Redhawks added a sixth run in the top of the third, when Brooke Murgenovich singled in Formeck to make it 6-1.

The Barons cut the deficit to 6-4 in the top of the fifth, behind an RBI single, a La Roche error and a wild pitch.

The Redhawks would shut the door in the bottom of the sixth, plating seven runs to earn the 13-4, run rule victory.

Wade began the scoring with a two RBI double, followed by RBI singles from Garrah Milochik and Formeck.

Cassidee Fitterer sealed the victory with a pinch-hit, bases clearing triple for the win.

Klover Haberthier got the start, and in the victory, threw four innings, allowing one unearned run, three hits, two walks and struck out three.

Emma Kaufman threw the final two innings, allowing three runs (two earned), two hits, one walk and struck out one.

Offensively, La Roche had 11 hits, led by Formeck's 3-for-4 outing, while Murgenovich also had a multi-hit game with two.

GAME TWO: La Roche 5 Franciscan 1

Game two scoring started in the bottom of the first, when Fitterer drove in Kynnydy Lewis with an RBI groundout to make it 1-0.

The Redhawks would tack on two more runs in the bottom of the third behind RBI singles from Wade and Hohn.

La Roche's scoring closed in the bottom of the fourth with two more runs, including one off Formeck's second RBI triple of the twin-bill and then was followed by an RBI double from Samantha Dixon.

The final run of the game was scored by the Barons on an RBI single in the top of the seventh and the Redhawks sealed the sweep.

In game two, Lewis pitched a complete game, allowing one run, four hits, walked three and struck out two.

Offensively, the Redhawks sprayed 10 hits, led by Milochik's perfect 3-for-3, while Wade added another multi-hit game with two.

La Roche is back in action on Wednesday, Apr. 16 when they face Franciscan at home in AMCC play. The doubleheader is set to begin at 3 p.m.
