Redhawks Fall in Road Contest Against Tartans

Pittsburgh, PA - In the first game of the new year the Lady Redhawks (5-2, 2-0) took the short bus ride to Carnegie Mellon University to face off against the Lady Tartans (5-3). 

Starting for the Redhawks were Makayla Abram (Stubenville, OH), Danajah Sanders (Cleveland, OH), Ayanna Mazyck (Philadelphia, PA), Shaundrea Butler (Cleveland, OH), and Nia Thomas (Brackenridge, PA). 

For the Tartans, Caitlyn Clendenin (Bethesda, MD), Isha Nambisan (Fremont, CA), Anisha Chintala (Austin, Texas), Catherine Or (Los Angeles, CA), and Leah Weslock (Howell, MI) took to the floor.

The Redhawks fell to the Tartans 68-55. 

Throughout the game La Roche was never far behind, often only being one or two points behind Carnegie Mellon scoring wise for each quarter. In fact, LRU outscored CMU in the third quarter 21-20. 

In the final quarter is where things went down hill for the Redhawks and they were bested 21-14 in baskets in the period. 

Caitlyn Clendenin was tonight's scoring leader for the Tartans. Clendenin had a double double tonight with 16 points, and 12 rebounds. She also had three blocks, three assists, and a steal. 

Following shortly behind Clendenin was Catherine Or with a double double of her down. 13 points, and 13 rebounds she'll put in the book at the end of the contest. 

Leah Weslcok, and Anisha Chintala also landed double digits tonight with 11, and 10 respectively. 

Dominating the court for La Roche was Danajah Sanders. Sanders netted 23 points, coupled with four rebounds, two steals, and one assist. 

Ayanna Mazyck led the Redhawks in rebounds with seven. She also added eight points to the Redhawks final score. 

Nia Thomas in her second start of the season, was the next leading scorer. Thomas added nine points, two rebounds and two steals to the book in tonight's contest. 

The Lady Redhawks are back in action in two days time as they face off at Juniata against the Eagles at 7 PM, on Wednesday, January 5.
