Women's Basketball Sails Over Alfred St. on Senior Day, 93-56

McCANDLESS, Pa. - La Roche women's basketball bested Alfred St. at the Kerr Saturday afternoon in their final regular season game, 93-56. The Redhawks scored 51 of their season-high 93 points in the first half alone. LRU placed first in the AMCC standings for the second year in a row with an 18-2 conference record, tied for their most AMCC wins in a season ever. 

Sophomore guard Danajah Sanders scored 16 of her season-high 22 points in the first half of today's contest. Sanders shot a near perfect 8 of 9 from the field and 4 of 5 from beyond the arc, the most triples Sanders has hit in a game this season. She also added three assists, two rebounds and an assist.

Lone Senior Jenna Cole celebrated her Senior Day by going for 17 points, five rebounds and an assist. Cole has scored 15 or more points in twelve games this season.

Ayanna Mazyck posted her team-high fifth double-double this season with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Mazyck also had a game-high six assists and three steals. 

Dasja Anderson dominated on the glass grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds while also contributing nine points and tying Mazyck with a game-high six assists. Anderson has recorded at least 12 rebounds in four of her last nine games. 

Head Coach Kamela Gissendanner picked up her 150th career win on Saturday. Gissendanner heads into next week looking to win her sixth AMCC Tournament Championship in seven years at LRU.

How it Happened

The Redhawks offense was on fire in the first quarter, draining their first four shots to take an early 13-2 lead less than four minutes into the game. Senior Jenna Cole hit two 3-PT in the first two minutes of the contest.

As a unit, La Roche made an incredible seven three pointers in the first quarter, the most they have hit in any quarter this season. LRU shot an impressive 68.8% (11-16) from the field in the first. 

La Roche led by double-digits for the remainder of the game, building their cushion to as many as 39 points in the second half. The Redhawks led by 10 or more points for 35 of the games 40 minutes.

The black and red shot a season-high 57.1% (36-63) from the field.

The Redhawks tied their season-high with 12 made three's on 24 attempts (50%). La Roche has nailed 10 or more triples in two straight games and five times this season.

Sidney Farmer was once again stellar off the bench, providing a season-high 11 points in 16 minutes while shooting 3 of 5 from deep.  

LRU posted 22 assists on 36 field goals, the third most assists and tied for their most field goals in a game this season. 

La Roche out-rebounded Alfred St., 45-29. 

The Redhawks scored 30 of their 93 points on the fastbreak, generating 11 steals and 16 points off turnovers.
