Panthers Fall to Hilbert in Final Road Game of Season

Panthers Fall to Hilbert in Final Road Game of Season

Hamburg, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's basketball team fell behind their hosts early and were unable to build enough momentum to come back, falling to Hilbert by a score of 106-62.

Game Notes:

  • The Panthers got off to an extremely slow start, as they were only able to muster 4 points over the opening 5 minutes. The Panthers committed 6 turnovers in the stretch, which aided the Hawks who jumped out to a 21-4 lead.
  • Gavin Boggs stopped the run with a three-point play and after two possessions, he assisted an Alex Breindel three which cut the lead to 11. The Hawks responded with an 18-2 run that saw them push their lead to 17.
  • Nick Carmichael scored 8 points in the final 6:30 of the half for Pitt-Bradford, but the Hawks were able to extend their lead in the same stretch, sending the game to the halftime break with the Panthers trailing 55-27.
  • Boggs started the second half with a three after a Dylan Meyer steal, only to see it immediately answered by Hilbert. That trend would continue for the remainder of the game, as the Panthers were only able to put together one significant scoring run.
  • With 13:04 to go, Alex Rodriguez hit a three to start a 9-3 run. Meyer hit a mid-range jump shot, and after a Hilbert three, Nick Carmichael made a layup inside. Jeffrey Fry made a layup following a Hilbert turnover to finish the rally.

Leaders:

  • Nick Carmichael led all scorers with 17 points in the game. He made 5 of 12 from the field and 6 of 7 from the line. He also led the team in rebounding, finishing with 7.
  • Dylan Meyer was the only other Panther to finish in double digits. He scored 10 points on 4 of 10 shooting. He grabbed 6 rebounds.

The loss moves the panthers to 1-21 on the season, with a 0-17 record in AMCC play. They play their final three games over the next 10 days, with all of them at home in KOA Arena. The homestand will begin on Saturday, February 16th, when the Panthers host Mount Aloysius at 2:00 p.m.

The game will be the 5th annual "Teal There's a Cure" event. Along with the home basketball doubleheader, Pitt-Bradford will look to raise awareness and money for the Evans-Krivak Gynecological Cancer Research Foundation. There will be raffles as well as a silent auction. The three prizes for the silent auction are a basketball signed by the University of Pittsburgh head coach Jeff Capel, a football signed by the University of Pittsburgh head coach Pat Narduzzi and 4 tickets to a Pittsburgh Basketball game at the Petersen Events Center.
