Behrend Softball Defeats Muskingum, Falls to Mass.-Dartmouth

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Penn State Behrend softball team erased a four-run deficit to defeat Muskingum 7-6 but fell 3-0 to Mass.-Dartmouth in the opener on Friday morning in Winter Haven, Florida.

Game One: Mass-Dartmouth 3, Penn State Behrend 0
Records: Penn State Behrend (3-6), Mass.-Dartmouth (6-3)

Noteworthy: 

* Mass.-Dartmouth held the Lions to one hit in seven innings
* Jill Richards pitched a complete game and struck out nine in the win
* Emi Curcio (Perryopolis, PA/Frazier) tallied the lone hit for Behrend
* Kaitlyn Ezzone (Ashtabula, OH/Edgewood) suffered the loss in the circle, allowing five hits and three runs
* Mass.-Darmouth scored one run in the second and two more in the fifth

Noteworthy: 

* The Behrend Lions score two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the lead for good
* In the bottom of the frame, Ezzone singled and advanced to second before reaching third on the first out
* Curcio doubled to score Ezzone to tie the game at 6-all
* After a pitching change, Cami McNany (Emlenton, PA/Allegheny-Clarion Valley) singled up the middle to move Curcio to third base
* Jocelyn McNany (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) hit the RBI single to send in Curcio for the eventual game-winning run
* Behrend scored two runs on four hits to collect its fourth win of the season
* C. McNany went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and a home run
* Maddie Smith (DuBois, PA/DuBois) went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs
* Shortstop Meghan Petitte (Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) added two hits and scored two runs in the win
* Abby Tingley (Union City, PA/Union City) started the game and was relieved by Maria Jones (Wilcox, PA/Johnsonburg) to secure the win
* Kayla Lindberg (Austinburg, OH/Geneva) recorded the save in the final inning of work
