Offense Sputters as Panthers Fall to Saxons

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's basketball team struggled to score against Alfred University on Thursday, shooting just 31% in a 69-47 loss to the Saxons.

  • The visitors were able to clamp down on the Panthers early as Pitt-Bradford was kept scoreless for the first four minutes of play. In the span, the Saxons were able to build a six-point lead before Caden Beldin opened the scoring for the Panthers with a layup inside. The Panthers chipped away at the deficit throughout the half, as both teams struggled to score.
  • Alex Rodriguez and Lennon Lindholm hit big threes for the Panthers before they were able to tie the game at 15 on a Greg Archie jumper. The Saxons were able to jump back ahead but Nathan Schneider made a buzzer-beating jump shot to send the game to the half with the Panthers trailing 21-19.
  • After the break, the Panthers saw their deficit grow quickly as Alfred came out firing. The Saxons quickly scored 9 straight points in the opening two minutes of the half to open up a double-digit lead. The Panthers were able to respond with back-to-back lay-ups from Schneider and Archie but then saw the visitors clamp down once again to extend their lead to 15.
  • The Panthers were unable to string any runs together as the Saxons were able to maintain their large lead for the remainder of the game. Greg Archie was able to find some success in the second half as he scored 12 points on 4-6 both from teh field and the free-throw line.

Archie finished the game with 14 points to lead the Panthers. Nathan Schneider struggled to score for the Panthers as he finished with 9 points, but was a force on the boards, finishing with a game-high 15 rebounds. 

The Panthers fall to 4-3 after the loss. They will kick off their AMCC schedule in their next matchup as they host La Roche University on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
