Panthers Wrap-up Regular Season with Sweep of Keuka

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford volleyball team closed their regular season on Saturday, sweeping Keuka in the final game of a tri-match.

The Panthers outlasted the Wolves 25-22 and 25-20 to take a dominating 2-0 lead and then closed the match with an easy 25-14 win in set three.

The Panthers lost the first point of the match, but after a service error returned the serve they rolled off three straight to jump ahead. Jenna Louser tallied back-to-back kills and Darby Deniston added a third. The Wolves captured the momentum with a kill and scored 8 of the next 9 points to take a 9-5 lead. They maintained a 5-point advantage until the Panthers began their comeback at 15-10. Pitt-Bradford was able to outscore Keuka 7-2 to tie the match at 17 on an Olivia Reese kill and regained the lead after a timeout with another kill from Reese. Following a side-out, Reese added two more straight kills to push the lead to 20-18 and the Panthers swapped slideouts to maintain the lead until Deniston finished the set with a final kill.

Set two started off much closer as the teams exchanged blows without taking a lead larger than two points. Tied at 12, the Panthers took a lead they would not relinquish on a double block from Reese and Kaitlyn Sexton. After the block, the Panthers scored 3 more in a row on a Keuka error and a pair of Reese kills. The Panthers kept the lead larger than three for the rest of the set keeping the visitors from multiple-point scoring rallies. A pair of Talia Magno kills put the Panthers on the doorstep of winning the set before a pair of Keuka errors put Pitt-Bradford ahead 2-0.

Both teams shared side-outs early in set three, but the Panthers took the lead for good on a Reese kill lat 4-3. From that point they slowly added to their lead, eventually using a 4-point rally to open up a 6-point advantage. Darby Deniston started the rally and after a timeout and a hitting error for Keuka, Ryley Pago put down back-to-back kills to extend the lead to 13-7. The Panthers later pushed their lead to double digits using a rally with Chloe Bellis at the service line and closed the match at 25-14 with a final Deniston kill.

Olivia Reese led the Panthers with 14 kills, surpassing the 500-kill milestone in set three. She also added 7 digs. Darby Deniston also reached double figures, finishing with 12 kills and a .321 hitting percentage. Tabitha Walker picked up 31 more assists, while Kayla Maslowski collected 17 digs.

The Panthers finish their regular season at 11-15. They finished 4th in AMCC play and will host Penn State-Altoona in the first round of the postseason on Wednesday, November 2nd.
