Senior Janet Aland has Career Day in Loss to Franciscan

STEUBENVILLE, Oh. - The La Roche women's volleyball team traveled to Ohio this afternoon to face off against Franciscan University. The host school held a "Dig Pink" event in association with the Side-Out Foundation, an organization that works with medically renowned institutions to extend the lives of those living with stage IV breast cancer. 75% of the proceeds (admission, 50/50 raffle, chinese auction, etc) were donated to Side-Out, and 25% were donated to the TEAR Fund, a UK Christian relief and development agency who helps those in poverty.

The match started off competitive, La Roche only lost the first set by two points, but Franciscan dominated the last two sets, winning them by a combined total of 11 points. Today's match marks the third straight loss for the Redhawks. During that time, they have recorded a combined set score of 9-2.

Final Score: La Roche: 0, Franciscan: 3

Set Scores: 24-26, 21-25, 18-25

LEADING THE ATTACK: Senior middle hitter Janet Aland led the Redhawks with 13 kills while recording an efficient .435 hit percentage. Not only is it the most kills Aland has had in a single game this season, it's the most she's had in any game in her four year career at La Roche. Her previous high for a single game was 8 kills, which she achieved three times, once every year of her collegiate career (2016, 2017, 2018).

SET EM' UP: Senior setter Bailey McDonald led the team in assists, recording 22 on the day. It is the second time she has gone for over 20 assists in a game this season (8/30: 26 assists vs. Westminster). In 2018, McDonald had one such performance (9/28/2018 vs. Houghton: 20 assists). Her 149 assists on the year are currently good enough for 7th in the AMCC.

BACK ROW PLAY: Freshman outside hitter Mackenzie Jeric led the Redhawks with 13 digs. It's her second highest mark this season (9/3 vs. Thiel: 19 digs).

HOME SWEET HOME: The Redhawks have prospered at home in 2019, but struggled on the road and at neutral locations. At the Kerr Sport and Fitness Center, they have a 3-1 record while averaging 9.2 kills per set, a .195 hitting percentage & 1.47 blocks per set. On the road, they have a 1-5 record while averaging 8.7 kills per set, a .120 hitting percentage & 1.18 blocks per set.

NEXT UP: La Roche visits Capital University on Friday September 20th to take on the Crusaders. Game time starts at 7:00 p.m.
