PITTSBURGH, Pa. - La Roche baseball battled Chatham on Thursday afternoon, but in the end, it was the Cougars coming out on top, 15-2 in eight innings.
Chatham was first to crack the scoreboard, picking up a run in the top of the second, then a pair of runs in the third to take a 3-0 lead at the time.
The Redhawks would trim the deficit to 3-1 in the bottom of the third, when Josh Dreyer drove in Tanner Schmitt with a sacrifice fly.
The Cougars would up the lead to 5-1 in the top of the fifth with two runs, then really opened the lead up in the seventh, scoring six runs.
La Roche would keep the game going in the bottom of the seventh with an Andy Sopata RBI fielder's choice, but four runs in the eighth for Chatham would seal the game.
Samuel DiCicco got the start for the Redhawks, allowing five runs (three earned), six hits and three walks in five innings.
Three relievers combined for the final three innings, allowing 10 runs, eight hits and four walks.
Offensively, the Redhawks had nine hits with Schmitt and Damon Foster leading the way, both going 2-for-4.
La Roche is back in action on Sunday, Mar. 23 against Pitt-Greensburg on the road to open AMCC play. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
