
ERIE, Pa. – La Roche men's basketball rebounded on Wednesday night, picking up its first AMCC win with a dominant 75-59 victory over Penn State Behrend on the road.
Sitting 5-4 in favor of the Redhawks in the opening 3:03 of play, the red and black then stormed ahead behind a 10-0 run to take command with 14:29 on the clock, 15-4.
Four minutes later, the Lions had the deficit trimmed to 19-14, but with 9:10 to go, the lead was back to double-digits at 24-14.
Up 31-21 with 6:14 to go in the half, La Roche began what would be a 13-2 run to take serious control with 3:17 remaining by a score of 44-23 and led at the half, 49-29.
Out of the break, the Redhawks poured it on, scoring eight of the first 10 points to build a lead of 57-31.
It was cruise control from there for the red and black, never allowing the deficit to come any closer than 12 points, despite a small push by the Lions and sealed the victory.
For the game, the Redhawks finished 31-for-58 (53.4%) from the floor and 10-for-20 (50%) from three. From the foul line, they made just three of eight attempts (37.5%).
On the other side, Behrend finished 25-for-47 (53.2%) from the field, 4-for-16 (25%) from deep and 5-for-8 (62.5%) from the free-throw stripe.
The Redhawks had two players in double figures, led by Bryce Epps who poured in 22 points on 8-for-12 shooting and 5-for-6 from three, to go alongside three rebounds, two assists and four steals.
Joe Starzynski followed with 13 points, three rebounds and five assists.
The biggest key to victory was the rebounding battle, as the red and black out-rebound the Lions 36-16, including 20-6 at halftime.
La Roche stays on the road for its final matchup before the New Year, facing off with Baldwin Wallace. Opening tip on Tuesday, Dec. 17 is set for 7 p.m.
