Panthers Drop Match with Mavericks

Buffalo, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's soccer team traveled to Buffalo on Wednesday to take on former AMCC member Medaille. The Panthers fell behind early and lost the match 3-0.

The hosts were able to put the Panthers under pressure right away as they missed the net with their first shot, but forced Sadie Wood into a save within 3 minutes. Pitt-Bradford was able to strike back, as Riley Stowe put a shot on net a minute later, but it was all the Panthers could muster offensively before the Mavericks opened the scoring in the 23rd. Wood was beat on a long shot that found the top corner. Medaille continued their attack after the first and doubled their lead in the 28th when they took advantage of a turnover on a goal kick. Stowe forced two more saves from the Medaille keeper before Medaille went up 3 in the 40th.

Medaille kept up the pressure after the break, as they took the first 4 shots of the half until Alannah Allen got two shots off in the 67th minute. Delaney Stowe put two shots on goal in a 5-minute span, but that was all the Panthers were able to muster. Wood made 5 saves in the final 20 minutes to keep the deficit at three goals.

Sadie Wood finished the game with 10 saves. Riley Stowe led the team with 3 shots on goal, while Delaney Stowe added two more. Carolelyn LaPrairie had the other shot on foal for Pitt-Bradford.

The loss drops the Panthers to 0-8 this season. They will begin AMCC play this weekend when they travel to Pittsburgh to take on LaRoche. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
