Behrend Softball Claims AMCC Regular-Season Championship

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend softball team picked up their fifth doubleheader sweep of the season, while earning the title of Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Regular-Season Champions by defeating Alfred State on Saturday.

Game One: Penn State Behrend 4, Alfred State 1
Records: Penn State Behrend (18-17, 11-2 AMCC), Alfred State (10-24, 3-10 AMCC)

Key Moments: 

* Alfred State got on the board first in both games
* It took three scoreless innings, before the Pioneers scored on a double from Audrey Farrell for a 1-0 lead
* Behrend responded in the bottom of the frame with a single by Cami McNany (Emlenton, PA/Allegheny-Clarion Valley) followed by an error to score Sierra Williams (Grove City, PA/Lakeview)
* Kayla Lindberg (Austinburg, OH/Geneva) went three up and three down in the circle in the fifth and the offense followed with its best output in the game
* The Lions scored three runs on three hits for the final 4-1 margin
* Jocelyn McNany (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) smacked the lone strike pitched to her during the game over the fence for a pair of runs
* Emi Curcio (Perryopolis, PA/Frazier) drove in the last run with an RBI single to the shortstop
* Lindberg allowed three runs and one earned run while striking out nine for her ninth win

Game Two:  Penn State Behrend 7, Alfred State 1
Records: Penn State Behrend (19-17, 12-2 AMCC), Alfred State (10-25, 3-11 AMCC)

Key Moments: 

* Behrend had a pair of three-run innings for an early 6-1 lead in game two
* Alfred State got its only run in the first inning
* The Lions scored three in the second and three more in the third
* The final run was scored in the seventh, beginning with double by Williams
* Abby Tingley (Union City, PA/Union City) grounded out to get Williams off third to make it 7-1
* Tingley pitched the complete game, improving to 8-6 on the season
* The game had a combined nine errors for the seven innings
