Softball Wins Big at La Roche; Lions Sweep Redhawks in AMCC Opener

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Penn State Behrend softball team opened Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action with a pair of wins over La Roche on Monday afternoon.

Game One: Penn State Behrend 8, La Roche 1
Records: Penn State Behrend (5-10, 1-0 AMCC), La Roche (5-11, 0-1 AMCC)

Key Moments: 

* The Behrend Lions smacked five extra-base hits in the opening win, including three triples, a double and a home run
* Jocelyn McNany (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) went 3-for-3 with two runs, a triple and a double
* Sierra Williams (Grove City, PA/Lakeview) registered her team-leading fourth home run with a two-run dinger in the fifth inning
* Behrend went scoreless in the first two innings and tallied at least one run in the final five for the win
* Nicole DeRose (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) and Kayla Salvini (McDonald, PA/Fort Cherry) each tallied a triple
* Kayla Lindberg (Austinburg, OH/Geneva) started the game and pitched three innings before making way to Kaitlyn Ezzone (Ashtabula, OH/Edgewood) who picked up her first win of the season

Game Two: Penn State Behrend 21, La Roche 1 (5 innings)
Records: Penn State Behrend (6-10, 2-0 AMCC), La Roche (5-12, 0-2 AMCC)
 
Key Moments: 

* For a second straight game, Behrend held La Roche to one run
* Behrend registered its most hits and runs in a game with 14 and 21, respectively
* The Lions scored 12 runs in the first inning for a commanding lead
* Lexi Edgett (Frisco, TX/Lone Star) had four hits and four RBIs, while Williams went 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs
* La Roche got its lone run in the fourth inning, the only inning Behrend did not score
* Maddie Smith (DuBois, PA/DuBois) score a game-high five runs, adding two hits and an RBI
* Abby Tingley (Union City, PA/Union City) pitched all five innings for the Lions, allowing just four hits and one run and striking out two
