Eagles Win Big Against Mount Aloysius

Isabella Michener

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's lacrosse team stayed unbeaten as they blew past Mount Aloysius, 20-2, on a chilly Wednesday evening at Gibbel Stadium.

Taylor Metz (Oaklyn, N.J. / Paul VI H.S.) found Talia Bertrando (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) to open the scoring 18 seconds into the game, and Arielle Danchenko (Palm City, Fla. / South Fork) set up Metz to double the lead a minute later. Paige Riker (Sussex, N.J. / Vernon Township) tossed it to a slashing Bertrando for her second goal of the day before Metz hit Riker to put JC up 4-0 in the first five and half minutes. The Mounties started the game with only 11 players.

Mount Aloysius got on back, but the Eagles completely dominated the rest of the half with 7-1 surge. Charlotte Mallow (Beallsville, Md. / Poolesville) assisted Michaela Naccarini (Westminster, Md. / Winters Mill H.S.), Danchenko scored on a free position shot, Bertrando tallied her third of the night, Cat Lanigan (Parsippany, N.J. / Parsippany) and Isabella Michener (Randolph, N.J. / Randolph H.S.) added their name to the goal scorers list and Shayla Lapp (Lancaster, Pa. / Lampeter-Strasburg) scored on a free position shot to make it 10-1.

The Mounties scored with just under seven minutes to go in the half, but Michener's second goal of the day sent the Eagles into the locker room up 11-2.

In the final 26 seconds of the first half, one of the Mount Aloysius defenders got her second yellow card, and since they had no substitutes, they were down to 10 players the rest of the game.

JC dominated the second half, outshooting the visitors 14-1 and winning the second half 9-0.

Michener had a dominant second half as she tallied four goals, Bertrando added two along with an assist while Sara Deetz (Gloucester City, N.J. / Gloucester City), Mallow and Naccarini each added a goal apiece.

The Eagles will host Eastern Mennonite, Saturday at one.
