ASC Tallies Third Straight Shutout To Start The Season

Alfred, NY- The Pioneers move to 3-0-0 after a well-rounded 4-nil performance. Four different players notched goals to earn their third straight shutout this season.

Alfred State shot 6-13 on the day, with Ali Mata-Ruiz, Henry Leahy, Nuri Sarbudak, and Andy Sanchez finding the back of the net. Jack Leahy tallied two assists as well. In goal, Thaddeus Grierson saved Thiel's only shot on goal.

Mata-Ruiz netted the match's first goal in the 13th minute off passes from J. Leahy and Andres Mateos.

A few minutes later, Sanchez put in a goal of his own, finding the right side upper 90, to extend the Pioneer lead to 2-0. Earning an assist on the play was Jean Kagde.    

Alfred did not take their foot off the gas in the second half. Sarbudak made it a 3-0 game with a goal in the 53rd minute. That goal came off a free-kick pass from J. Leahy.

After some midfield action, H. Leahy found a gap to net the final Pioneer goal of the day. ASC was able to hold off the Tomcats attack for the rest of the match to win 4-0.

The Pioneers will return on the pitch this Saturday, September 9th, at 3 p.m. to take on SUNY Cobleskill.
