Two solid quarters bookend AMCC win for Women’s Basketball

BRADFORD, Pa. --- Carlow University women's basketball secured a 64-55 AMCC win over Pitt Bradford on the road Saturday.

The Celtics (12-10, 9-7 AMCC) posted two solid quarters to start and end the game to defeat the Panthers (8-14, 5-11 AMCC).

Emiley Hillgartner led the Celtics with a game-high 22 points, eight rebounds, five steals and two assists. Emma Aubrey sank five of Carlow's seven treys to tally 15 points, and Emari Stinnette added 14 points. Sydney Carr pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds, and Shaelyn Clark contributed eight rebounds, two assists and two steals in the win.

The Celtics jumped out to a 7-0 lead to start the game, holding the Panthers to just four points over the next six-and-a-half minutes before a three-pointer saw Pitt Bradford trailing by eight.

A jumper from Stinnette in the second quarter pushed Carlow's lead to 10 points, but it was short-lived as the Panthers landed a free throw later.

Neither team would score for the next four minutes before a Pitt Bradford jumper cut Carlow's lead to seven, and the Celtics would hold onto the seven point advantage heading into the locker room at halftime.

The Panthers attempted a comeback in the third quarter, going on a 10-2 run to begin the second half and gain a 33-32 lead. A three-pointer from Clark put the Celtics on top once again, but a layup tied the game at 35-all just seconds later. Carlow called a timeout, and neither team would score for over a minute before Carr landed a jumper to put the Celtics up, 37-35. A last-second three-pointer put the Panthers within two, trailing the Celtics 43-41 heading into the fourth quarter.

Another trey gave Pitt Bradford a marginal 46-45 advantage early in the fourth, but a jumper from Hillgartner put Carlow in the lead once again. The Celtics outscored the Panthers 9-4 over the course of the next five-and-a-half minutes before another Pitt Bradford layup cut Carlow's lead to four.

Another trey from Aubrey gave the Celtics some breathing room with under two minutes remaining in regulation, and Carlow scored its final five points at the foul line as time ran off the clock.

The Celtics scored 19 points off 16 Pitt Bradford turnovers on the day. It was an otherwise evenly matched game on the box score, with the Panthers holding a minuscule 49-48 advantage in rebounding and outscoring the Celtics 12-6 off the bench.

Paige Gratto led the Panthers with 21 points, and Yasmine Abu-Aiadeh added 11 points in the effort.

Carlow hosts its final home game of the season against La Roche University at 6 p.m. Feb. 14.
