Treys take down Men’s Basketball in AMCC matchup against Penn State Behrend

PITTSBURGH --- Carlow University men's basketball lost an 84-49 AMCC contest to Penn State Behrend at Donahue Pavilion Wednesday night.

The Lions (12-5, 7-3 AMCC) shot 57.1 percent from beyond the arc, sinking 16 three-pointers on the night. Behrend shot 52.5 percent (32 for 61) from the field overall.

Byron Gaskins was the only Celtic to score in double figures with 12 points, three assists and a steal. Griffin Ruhlman added eight points off the bench, and Gavin McLain tallied four blocks. Riley Comforti contributed four assists and a steal in the effort.

Behrend led 17-11 midway through the first half, pushing its advantage to 10 points with five minutes remaining in the half. The Celtics trailed by just 12 points at halftime.

Carlow kept within 10 points of the Lions through the beginning of the second half, but Behrend went on a 14-2 run that spanned over six minutes to extend their lead to 22.

The Lions continued to push their lead through the remainder of the half to secure the victory.

The Celtics scored 10 points off 11 Behrend turnovers and outscored the Lions 32-30 in the paint. Behrend outrebounded Carlow 49-23 and outscored the Celtics 29-18 off the bench.

Matthew McDonough landed six treys to score a game-high 26 points for the Lions. Michael Sopko added 13 points, and Mason Blankenberg scored 11 off the bench.

Carlow hosts Hilbert (N.Y.) College for a 4 p.m. AMCC game Jan. 27.
